Sens-ational

October 23rd, 2007

SensNew Embarcadero restaurant Sens plates dishes inspired by Turkey, North Africa and Greece. Produce, meat and fish are locally sourced, organic and sustainable to suit our highest standards. Select from Harissa braised Oregon lamb chops with slow cooked dandelion, quince and chickpeas; and Turkish flat bread with Sonoma Crescenza, braised greens, walnuts, and caramelized onions. Don’t forget to enjoy the wine and views: The main dining room and patio overlook San Francisco’s historic Ferry Building, the Bay Bridge extending to Treasure Island, and the surrounding Bay. Gorgeous.

Ultimate Ice Cream Saver

October 22nd, 2007

PreparaPrepara products, designed for performance, bring out the best in foodies. This ice cream pint sleeve is one such design that will keep your ice cream from getting soft and soupy. The neoprene sleeve fits snugly over your favorite pint, so you can take your sweet time devouring the stuff, while keeping your palms and fingers warm (perfect for winter!). A built-in magnet allows you to keep it close on hand. On your freezer door, for instance.

K-Zo Eats

October 22nd, 2007

Kzo RestaurantWe’ve got plenty of reasons why you’ll love K-Zo: white miso soup with tofu or clam; ratatouille; spicy calamari or shrimp salads; green tea soba salad with shiitake mushroom, hijiki, carrots, cucumber, tomato and grilled shrimp tossed with green tea soba noodles; and the list goes on. We have consistent cravings for the albacore salad with seared albacore tataki salad and garlic ponzu dressing. One order is never enough for our voracious appetites.

Rich, 16% butterfat premium ice cream is made in small batches to ensure the finest taste and quality. Fitting for one of our favorite places in the whole wide world.

Wine Bar Musings

October 18th, 2007

Va De ViVa De Vi’s European-inspired space seduces oenophiles with dark wood interiors, a swank copper bar, and an open kitchen that turns out small plates such as ahi tartare and sautéed veal sweetbreads. Wine selections change weekly to encourage experimentation. If you’re feeling non-committal (aren’t we all?), partake of imaginative international wine flights from Napa, Austria or anywhere in between. Lesser-known, but equally enticing cocktails include Brazil’s national libation, the Caipirinha (shaken Cachaça 51, muddled lime, and sugar served over ice) and an Elderflower Margarita (Tequila Corralejo Reposado, St. Germain elderflower liqueur and fresh lime).

Small Batch Treats

October 17th, 2007

Jenis IcecreamsA bowl filled with piping hot mac and cheese is sublime, but to us, cold equals comfort. Enter Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams (and sorbets), which seem to be a match made in heaven for all of that chocolate fudge, whipped cream and gooey caramel in our fridges. They’re hand-crafted in small batches, using the same methods of the world’s finest pastry shops. Place an order online and your shipment will include a handwritten gift card and high-density foam container with plenty of dry ice and proper handling instructions. Jeni doesn’t mess around.

Ugly Truffles

October 16th, 2007

ChocolategourmetWe think there’s no such thing as an ugly truffle, but Chocolate Gourmet begs to differ. The company serves up a motley array of homemade candies it has officially named “ugly,” such as Hairy Coconut (creamy coconut ganache encased in white chocolate and rolled in toasted coconut) and Homely Hazlenut (praline ganache surrounded with bittersweet chocolate and rolled in toasted hazelnuts and feuilletine). Unattractive? No, not really. But make no mistake: they taste pretty fabulous.

The latter is a blend of walnuts, almonds and pecans and it pairs perfectly with your favorite salad or beer.
