Gunilla Elisabeth Eisenberg’s skincare studio in San Francisco
inhabits a pocket of Union Street that gets a lot of foot traffic. All the same, there’s no big marquee to announce Eisenberg’s presence, and after walking through a narrow, industrial-looking hallway and emerging into a thicket of trees and white cottage-like edifices, you might well feel as far away as Potrero Hill. Eisenberg, who’s something of a local celebrity in the skincare industry, has a quote on her website, “Simplicity is the whole secret of well-being,” which seems to encapsulate the very aura of Gunilla Skin Butik. Most of her clients swear by the Epicuren Skin Rejuvenation Facial, which stimulates oxygen flow and pushes out toxins. Enjoy a slew of delicious-smelling cleansers that promote cell renewal and collagen production. The cherry on top, however, is a tingly hot cinnamon peel, which you can practically feel gobbling up my dead skin cells. While the treatment is more aggressive than the signature facial, and is excellent for sun-damaged or aging skin, Eisenberg’s delicate touch — even in the midst of extractions — leaves your skin feeling radiant and supple rather than bumpy and battered.
Alex Woo’s luxe Little Big collection is said to give high rollers a winning hand. The pendants capture the spirit of Las Vegas and are based on Woo’s original Vegas collection. Each one (featuring a diamond, spade, club or heart, respectively) is sculpted from sterling silver or solid 14K yellow gold and comes with or without diamonds. A custom wood gift box completes this glamorous gift idea.
Like your totes flashy? Or maybe you’re a classic kind of chickadee? Newbie designer Bryna Nicole, based in SF, makes eye-catching handbags with bicoastal appeal, so even if you’re a New Yorker you’ll love them (they’re brought to life in the Big Apple and the look is utterly urban). As for materials? Think sumptuous Italian calfskin, cowhide and lambskin with cotton prints and suede linings.
One of our favorite clothier’s also apparently in the business of making complexions glow. Dior’s Capture Totale is a growing favorite among our crew—you can say goodbye to fine lines, dark spots, saggy pockets of skin, and uneven texture. The magic ingredient is Longoza, a plant that can only be found in Madagascar, which tightens slackened skin and makes you exude that certain glow. Available from Sephora.
C&M’s tantalizing Epicurean Delights should inspire you to jump-start a new fitness routine for 2007. Hate the gym? Okay maybe “hate” is a strong word, but chances are you need something that’s going to motivate you to leap into action. That’s where newly released Surf Stronger comes in. The “Surfer’s Workout” DVD is unlike your typical at-home workout because a.) it’s not at all cheesy and b.) it’s totally functional, as in you will gain the skills needed to hit the ocean. The concept was developed by a team of über-fit Cali surfing gurus. Whether you’re planning to ride winter’s wicked waves or just look like a beach goddess, this routine is for you. Now check out the rest of Marie’s Closet to snag some designer digs that’ll make you look chic while you sweat in front of the tele.
What some women fail to understand is that they needn’t reveal too much skin (read: cleavage) in order to be sexy. Case in point: Marie, C&M’s grand dame. Her appeal is her walk, her talk and her impeccable taste. When it comes to casual wear, like cozy tees and tanks, she prefers T Luxury designs which are classic but somehow manage to turn heads every time. The appeal of this line is in its extraordinary fabrics and fit.
ProVockative Gems carries posh pieces by über-designer Donna Vock (her love of gems dates back to her childhood rock collection). While you’re perusing the site, check out the full spectrum of jewelry from rings and bracelets to bedazzling necklaces, brooches and earrings. Most are made from gems and materials that have been snapped up from all over the world. This supremely chic collection is always changing and highlights can be viewed in the online gallery.
Shoe guru Stuart Weitzman has big, beautiful handbags on his mind these days. What can we say? It’s about time! His brand new collection of arm candy features some of the hottest shapes of the season (like this chic cargo tote). Expect Weitzman’s signature luxe materials and attention to detail.
Kisca by Komarov is wildy popular among fashionistas who love all things form-fitting. Known for her flowing lines and draping fabrics, the designer infuses her Russian pedigree with a passion for the hottest trends in Los Angeles. Best of all? The materials are wrinkle-free and hand washable, which makes these clothes perfect travel companions.
As you know, we’ve got gifts on the brain these days. That said, we’d like to turn your attention to Edition of One, a snazzy lil’ company that creates heirloom-quality celebration keepsakes such as illustrated books, accordion books diptychs and triptychs, framed art, scrolls and cards.
