For maximum impact, hit the urban pavement in her zip-up caps, tailored leather jackets and wide leg trousers.

Couture by Quen
September 28th, 2007
Dolls! It’s a madcap cocktail party world, which is why we’re letting you know that famed San Francisco couturier Colleen Quen has moved her atelier to Heron Street. The new digs are home to her imaginative, color-saturated collections, all of them made from liquid-like fabrics and pretty much on par with the kind of fab designs you’ll find in Paris (although these are far more affordable). Quen customizes frocks using old world haute couture techniques to ensure a perfect fit, which is why we continue to bring you updates on her designs.

Lash Out
September 19th, 2007
To create that deliberately spiky “rock ‘n’ kohl” look that’s pervading fashion runways, take a creamy onyx pencil to your lash line and pile on three coats of Imju Fiberwig. It’s a best seller in Japan since it’s engineered to create perfect lashes with clump-free, micro-fine fibers. You see, it coats the lashes by forming undetectable tubes around them to create a fuller effect. Use a toothpick to space out each lash when you’re finished. Tell Bambi to move over and score your own at Amazon.com or Sephora.com.

Bag Basics
September 18th, 2007
For autumn (by far the most glorious of seasons if you ask us), Finnish textile company Marimekko has launched Ristomatti Ratia’s new bag series, which features a stylish backpack, briefcase and shoulder bag in a smoldering cement hue. Designer Mika Piirainen’s new masterpieces include bags with the dotted Pirput parput pattern by Vuokko Eskolin-Nurmesniemi. Bags featuring Maija Isola’s classic Kaivo print are also available in a deep color palette befitting a best-dressed list.

Posh Yosh
September 18th, 2007
Consider the crowded elevators at Macy’s Union Square a testament to the power of parfum (nothing’s more atrocious than a pungent aroma that lingers long after its wearer has left). Marie likes her scents warm and soft, so she turns to the one, the only, the expensive Yosh Han. This marvelous mixologist creates customized fragrances at her by appointment atelier. Ready-to-wear selections include the sex kitten-ish Ginger Ciao (tiger lily, neroli, black coconut and ginger).

Madame M
September 14th, 2007
Scoop: The “M” stands for owner Marty Murphy—but one could argue it also symbolizes the adjectives modern, meticulous and muy marvelous. The new Danville location completes Murphy’s Northern California trifecta (wildly popular boutiques also exist in Healdsburg and Corte Madera). Since its opening in last month, gals are spending their lunch breaks scouring the racks and devouring clothing by of-the-moment-designers Rozae Nichols, Norma Kamali, Milly, Theory, Vince, Diane von Furstenberg, Catherine Malandrino, Level 99, and Nanette Lepore.

Eyelash envy. It’s the realization that you were born without long, lush lashes—and it usually strikes in the company of those who were (your best friend, for instance). Luckily, there are plenty of ways you can condition your way to perfection. When applied twice a day, Eyelash Lipocils yields noticeable results in four weeks. Ingredients such as lecithin and pure plant extracts have been clinically proven to stimulate growth. This transparent gel comes with a mascara-like wand and leaves lashes feeling less brittle to the touch. We don’t recommend using it under your regular mascara or before curling your lashes because the moisture will inhibit them from working to their full potential.

Dressed to Thrill
September 13th, 2007
We adore fashions of the orient, mostly because they remind us of our adventurous travels. Dublin’s The Heritage Boutique stocks exclusive modern-classic couture by two top Indian designers: celebrity favorite Ritu Beri and JJ Valaya of The House of Valaya. This shop is a must for those looking to swathe themselves in smoldering color (this includes clothing or tapestries). Sexy shapes and textiles in rich hues of copper and amethyst abound. Hooray for Bollywood.
