Anna Sykora is a Berlin-based artist in the field of ceramics and porcelain. We met her at Maison et Object in Paris and really admired her beautiful work. She makes her vessels out of fine French porcelain from Limoges. They are still in a very fragile state when she covers them with a Terra Sigillata and decorates them.

‘Terra Sigillata’ is a ceramic surface that was known in antiquity but is very rare today, in which vessels are covered with a thin layer of an extremely fine clay before they are fired. Sykora makes this material herself in an elaborate procedure.


The vessels are also glazed on the inside and fired a second time—at a much higher temperature. This gives them their final color and solidity. Beautiful work!
