Bamboo Goodies

December 20th, 2006

Babaloo Towels Couples PackCotton towels? Phooey. Babaloo’s bamboo towels are unusually soft, which makes them perfect for baby (they stay snuggly even after they’re washed). The England exports are made of a natural antibacterial and aren’t dyed or bleached, hence the natural cream color. We stock them in our guest bathrooms for discerning guests. You know, the ones who peer in the cabinets when you’re not looking. We’ve got to give them something to talk about.

Good Things and Wishes

December 19th, 2006

SinapearsonIt’s easy to get all nostalgic and think of the simpler days, when an afternoon of decadence didn’t mean shopping for Manolos and breakfasting at Tiffany’s—but rather, scarfing down pizza, playing make-believe, and breaking out the sand bucket for seashore expeditions. Sina Pearson’s ever-charming Good Things and Wishes collection assembles sketchings and doodles from second graders who responded to a question regarding what they thought would brighten the spirits of sick kids. These babies come in polyester flat-woven Crypton and resist stains, mildew, and germs—they’re perfect for your tot’s quarters or even the occasional living room cameo if you’re feeling cute.

A whimsical and distinctive piece that comes in orange or turquoise, the table is constructed from reclaimed tree roots that have been sandblasted and lacquered into ornamental sleekness. It’s charming, shiny, and hard to keep your hands off. Available from Dransfield and Ross.

Italamp’s Pave

December 15th, 2006

Italamp PaveItalamp’s Pave is, quite literally, a luminous drink of water…or rather, a goblet of chardonnay. A curvaceous, transparent wineglass holds a diffuser studded with tangerine, blue, clear, and bottle-green Swarovski crystals—in our eyes, it beats any bottle of Chablis.

Nimrod Chair

December 14th, 2006

Nimrod ChairMark Newsom’s Nimrod chair, far be it from a play on the guy infamous for erecting the Tower of Babel, has a practical edge – while still living up to its namesake’s penchant for outrageousness. The chair, which looks a bit like a super-sized Styrofoam telephone, was made out of rotation-molded plastic and took Newsom years and years to perfect. We think it would make a super-comfy airplane seat, but that’s just us. Available from Magis Design.
