SilverkuglevaseDesigner Pernille Vea has created the Silver Sphere Vase, a striking piece of art featuring a fascinating surface that is both transparent and mirrors its surroundings. Place flowers in the vase and you have a stirring reflection of flowers from many sides at once. The vase is made of hand-blown glass that is silvered internally and backed in layers of black enamel. The top of the vase features a broad, polished edge that reveals the design’s three layers. Every vase is a unique piece of handmade art by skilled artisans.

Mexi Candles

May 30th, 2007

Velas IllumecandlesWe’re ready to usher in those delightful dog days of summer. Until the sun starts really beating down here in California (we’re talking 112 temps), we’re basking in the glow of Velas de Casa candles, new from Illume. They’re as refreshing as a tall glass of sangria, and just as intoxicating. Opt for the ones that resemble terra cotta pots, which come in large and small sizes (the latter is great for toting to the beach or to your favorite picnic grounds). They don’t really give off heat, they just make you want to have an outdoor dinner party on your patio.

New textile prints from Ljungbergs

May 30th, 2007

Ljungbergstextil5Stig Lindberg´s very special and slightly eccentric, fanciful colours and forms continue to fascinate. After last year´s successful exhibitions at the National Museum of Art and at Gustavsberg´s, the “Stig Lindberg-wave” rolls on without any signs of subsiding. rom the very start it is Ljungberg´s Textile Prints that has printed Stig Lindberg´s patterns.
The pattern “Fruit-box” was designed during the early years of the 1950ies in a number of colour-combinations. We have selected four original colour-ways, two on a white ground and two on a coloured ground. We print it on a half-linen quality.
The pattern “Tally-ho”, with its stylized apple-forms, is a somewhat more modern pattern from the 1960ies which was initially intended for public environments.
The patterns “Bulbous” and “Herbarium” are printed in cooperation with www.bemz.com, a Stockholm-based company, which sells designed, washable covers for sofas, arm-chairs and cushions from IKEA to the whole world over the internet.
The pattern “Bulbous” comes in a thinner version on half-linen intended for curtains in the same grey-brown shades as those of Bemz´ furnishing fabric, while “Herbarium is printed in a dark-blue (also the same as the furnishing fabric) plus a new green colour-way for the curtains.
The textile quintet was shown at the Stockholm Furniture Fair in February, along with an exhibition at the Porcelain Museum of Gustavsberg as an integral part of the current Stig Lindberg-exhibition and will remain there until after summer.

Norwegian Forest lights

May 29th, 2007

CathrinekullbergCathrine Kullberg Lighting was set up 2006, aiming to bring together materials, designs and production processes to generate exclusive lighting products for distribution and sale in the international market. Cathrine Kullberg (1971) lives in Oslo, Norway. She is launching her first lamp Norwegian Forest, during spring 2007. Norwegian Forest lights draw on a classic Scandinavian tradition of using thin birch strips for lighting. Norwegian Forest lights show a deep pine forest with animals in light and shade. When lit, the blonde birch veneer shines with a warm glow and the delicately cut forest motif allows white light to filter out between the highlights of the trees.

UrbanarchaeologyHere’s something to dazzle you—Urban Archaeology’s polished V108 stainless steel tiles definitely trounce linoleum as far as style and shine potential go. The tiles, which sport a plethora of beautifully arranged half-moon shapes against a backdrop of rectangles, are surprisingly robust—braving the abuse of stilettos and skidding furniture alike.

Barrel Chair

May 28th, 2007

Barrel Lounge ChairMcGuire Furniture’s cheery Barrel lounge chair brings to mind the pop-art revival that swept the nation in the 90s and, actually, still continues to make cameos in posh showrooms and well-appointed living spaces alike. The throwback is much appreciated and is full of the kind of modernist detail that makes it such a keeper. Flashy rattan rings, 43 frame finishes (in black bamboo tobacco and natural cherry, among others), as well as plump feather and down cushions make this chair almost sinfully perfect.

A Bouquet of Silver

May 25th, 2007

Tilla Flowers Umbra1Okay, nothing against flowers, but are we the only ones who think that a bouquet of roses is more than a little uninspired? That’s why we love Michelle Ivankovic’s gorgeously witty bouquet of silver and gold-plated flowers. Besides being the most dazzling argument against getting someone perishable posies, it makes a special moment that much more special. The delicate gossamer wisps even sway like real flowers, ensuring that the sentiment, at its core, is still the same. Available from Umbra.
