Anatomia Chair
Anatomia chair was designed by Ahti Kotikoski for almost 40 years ago, but it is still modern and suitable for contemporary spaces and homes. This absolute design classic has an interesting background: Finnish furniture company Asko celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1968. In honour of the anniversary, it arranged the Chair -68 competition for young designers. The aim of the competition was to find practical chairs, suitable both for the company’s own production and for international markets. The competition jury included such giants of design as Tapio Wirkkala, Arne Jacobsen and Robin Day. The jury awarded a divided prize to the Anatomia chair designed by interior architect student Ahti Kotikoski. The jury noted the following about Anatomia: “The young designer has examined the anatomy of the chair by using himself and his friends as guinea pigs. In this way an exceptional chair was formed that, when considering its sitting comfort, construction and figure, approaches some universal trends.” Interestingly, the Chair -68 competition was followed by another competition, where the members of the Chair -68 competition jury took part as competitors and the winners formed the jury. Anatomia chair is made in Finland.
