Fire!

February 2nd, 2009

fire-light.jpgI collect tea lights. When entertaining, they create a festival of dancing lights in every room. Even with dozens of them that doesn’t mean I’ve stopped buying them though, and this is my latest purchase, the “Fire” tea light from Unison designed by Nathalie Lahdenmäki, it immitates the light and atmosphere of traditional Finnish winter ice lanterns. The light seeps through the ceramic foam which resembles ice and creates a beautiful soft glow in your own home. $45. Don’t worry, I left a few for others.

It’s Oscar Time!

January 10th, 2009

wallpaper_cover.jpgNo, not what you are thinking, that’s in February, we’re talking about Wallpaper’s design Oscars. Our dear friends there have pulled out all the stops for this year’s awards, a formidable international judging panel, Kanye West as the host of the party, Paris as the city of choice (don’t want to give anything away here) and of course, the eagerly awaited Design Awards issue of the mag itself, which is available today – if you can’t wait to hold it in your hands, click here for a full list of winners.

Theo

December 2nd, 2008

Theo.jpgTHEO (short for Theosarus) is not your run of the mill piggy bank. He’s designed in Berlin, made in Germany and currently the rave in Tokyo where Theo was singled out for his oinkness. Color us amused. Currently living at theosaurus.de.

Garden Tarts

November 19th, 2008

bubblinbuddha.jpgDon’t tell anyone, but one of our favorite havens in LA is “Pot-ted“, two charming stores “dedicated to transforming your outdoor space into a personal Eden.” Run by the Garden Tarts, Mary Grey and her best friend, it includes everything from lovely stone fountains, concrete “wok-styled” outdoor fire pits to Fermob lounge patio chairs, whimsical bird baths, with plenty of neo classic and wild bohemian chic tables to satisfy everyone. If you’re not lucky enough to live close to their stores — the original store is located in the trendy Atwater Village and a brand-new second store just opened on the Westside on Montana Ave. — they ship pretty much everywhere in the U.S. Check out the blog for a breath of fresh air, something of a rarity in this town.

James the Doorman

November 18th, 2008

James_the_Doorman.jpgHe’s cute, right? So-named “James the Doorman” – from Black & Blum – holds open a door (duh) or whatever task you set him to. Available at the Japanese site, SEMPRE. I expect Charles brought one back from his recent visit to Tokyo, along with other goodies we’ve never seen. Color me envious.
