Shoplifter Tote - Large

November 24th, 2006

Shoplifter2You’ve probably never been caught doing it, right? That’s because you simply don’t do it, right? No, not what you are thinking of, we are talking about something much darker: shoplifting. That habit that poor Winona was getting a kick out of…
We know, it’s something one would probably not want to discuss in public, let alone be caught in the act of… But our good friends over at Citizen:Citizen have just launched a new tote yesterday, that we simply had to get our hands on, made for exactly that. Well, maybe it’s more like a statement that you are one, or aspire to be one, or maybe you just want to give the impression that you could be one. Whatever your motivation, whether you are an aspiring shoplifter or just like the fact that your new favorite shopping tote will most definitely cause a stir, it is a wonderful conceptual and stylish piece of work, exactly what we expected from the incredibly talented guys over at C:C.
It comes in two sizes, the Large is 18″ x 18″ x 6″ (46 x 46 x 15 cm) with 23″ (60 cm) long straps and the Medium can be found if you click here. Both are cotton canvas. But now that you are equipped, you might want to reconsider doing it, as it is sort of obvious…

String Of Pearls Trivet

November 23rd, 2006

Ks Perle 1We know a good contraption when we see one, and this is a really nice idea by Konstantin Slawinski:
A string of white porcelain pearls, designed to protect any table, by keeping hot pots, pans or plates a good inch and a half away from the table top or tray surface. Not your typical little trivet or stand, but definitely an amazingly well working one. The beauty lies in the flexibility: Do you have a small pot? No problem, just create 2 circles and all is good. A big dutch oven? No problem, one big oval solves it. 2 pots? Well, just create an eight and you’re done… So pretty nifty in our opinion.
And if you are looking for a really really big necklace, you could, well – ok, maybe not…

Luxurious Video iPod Cover

November 22nd, 2006

Podsac Video1OK, we presented Christof Ronge’s work a couple months ago already, but it is such fantastic quality, that we had to bring it to you again. After all, the gift giving season is coming up soon and this is the ultimate cover for your iPod. Christof is a grad from the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena who designed snowboards for Burton and skates for K2 in his previous life. Now he puts all his energy behind his line of luxury iPod covers and we are happy to offer you his amazing, gorgeous and simply stunning Video iPod cover.
This is the softest leather you can imagine, a rich and intense dark brown, either embossed with a wonderful subtle pattern, or ‘au natural’, left untouched. It is finished with the highest standards in leather work you can imagine. All of his pieces are handmade by a group of 5 craftsmen who have been working in the trade for over 50 years! (not combined…) and come in a gorgeous box with a certificate, etc. So it’s ideal as a precious present. (Christmas is coming up faster than you think…)
The leather he used for the cover is so soft, and the quality so amazing that we didn’t want to put the cover down, but kept touching it in awe.
Christof’s products definitely score as some of the best SDJ’s we’ve had and we are very happy to have a couple handfuls back…
Price: $180 / 149€

Teastick - Ultimate Tea Time

November 21st, 2006

Teastick1-2If you’re a profound lover of fine teas, you’ve probably been feeling a bit neglected lately, what with so few places to delight in the exquisite art. Wouldn’t it be easier to become a coffee aficionado—the type who can get a fix at any ubiquitous coffee joint? In a word, yes. But despite their magnificent seeded muffins, Starbucks will always elicit a groan from the truest tea enthusiast who wants more than a packaged tea bag (the equivalent of instant coffee).
Gamil brings good news. They designed a tantalizing Teastick which you may recall from SDJ a couple month’s ago (plenty of you have sent us e-mails requesting one of your own). This totally unique utensil allows you to scoop your favorite loose tea, slide it into your beloved teacup and, as the subtle flavors slowly darken the water, savor the marvelous fragrances released by fresh leaves. We’ll say it once more, with passion: fresh leaves. Since it’s so easy to use, the Teastick is the perfect office companion. When you’re done, slide it open again, empty the leaves and go for round two. This is tea lover’s bliss…

Fabulous Magnetic Necklace

November 20th, 2006

Dynomighty 1Ok, bear with us for a second: This is not your grandma’s string of beads necklace – this is so high-tec - lo-tech it’s mind-boggling!
80 rare earth magnets held together by – you guessed it – their magnetic force. But don’t you worry; it’s just as good as any string that you would find in your pearl necklace, except it gives you a lot more room to be creative!
You can form a necklace; a choker, bracelet, ring or whatever else comes to mind. By overlapping the ends of the necklace and twisting the two rows you can create a “V” shaped pendant, or by letting a little extra slack hang and attaching its end back to the necklace you can create a circular pendant.
These nickel plated rare earth magnets are amazingly strong and you need not worry about it coming apart unless you forcefully pull on it – which is quite unlikely unless you like chocking yourself…
The max length is 19″ (48 cm) but it can be much shorter as you can decide to leave as many magnets off as your heart desires. Truly magnetic…

Trees - Sam Johnson’s votive candle holder

November 17th, 2006

Sam Johnson Trees2If you are looking for a small gift that creates a big and beautiful impression, you’ve found it.
Sam Johnson – you undoubtedly know him from the fabulous ‘Light Reading’ lamp – presented this small yet wonderful votive candleholder a few months back as a prototype during ICFF. We got our hands on it, manufactured a test run, and here it is, we finally received the production run, in time for the holidays.
Beautiful black brass is chemically etched in the shape of trees, slipped into an envelope and when you receive it, you just have to bend the trees up to create a cute little nest for a votive tea candle.
Drop the candle in the middle and see a beautiful setting appear right in front of your eyes. Scatter a couple of them across your holiday table or over your fire place and see wonderful shadows appear.
We will ship these Monday morning, so they will be with you in time for Thanksgiving…
Price: $25 / 20€

Dr Raygun Wallet by Freshman

November 16th, 2006

Fr Drraygun Out BrnWe are suckers for great wallets, and we’ve brought you our fair share of wallets as well over the past month’s and the reason is simple: Women have handbags and shoes to indulge in… What about the guys? We think one wallet is never enough and that it is time to toss that way too stuffed, fat, old, completely disarrayed, scruffed, out of shape wallet of yours that your mom got you when you left for college and invest in something new.
We also believe in quintessentials, so today’s gorgeous product is exactly what the proverbial doctor would prescribe: Soft to the touch, supple, absolutely delectable leather in either jet black or rich chocolate brown, with just a hint of color inside. The color is obviously only visible when you have nothing in the wallet, otherwise it’s almost completely hidden by the ID… Four cards go on either side (yes you can double up, do we recommend it? No…), the ID goes in a separate space for easy access and your bills go in the bill fold behind the cards. All in all it packs a punch at only 3.5″ x 3.75″ (9 x 10 cm) in size, so it doesn’t really show either… Pretty sweet we think.
And in case you are a wondering what to get the man in your life as a present, consider this: for less than a heel on a pair of Manolo’s you can get him a beautiful wallet, and you can even choose the color…
Price: $70 / 60€

The all New and Improved ‘Be Tough’ T-Shirt

November 15th, 2006

Atypyk1With your intimate knowledge of C&M you will know that we have had the ‘Be Tough’ T-Shirt in our curated section for quite a while know. True, but this is the all new and improved version of Sébastien’s and Ivan’s wonderful idea.
There’s not really much one can say about it, the idea is pretty obvious, but it’s exactly that simplicity that makes this a definite must have for every T-Shirt fan. And you don’t even need to get a license – now isn’t that just fab.
What’s the difference to the previous one you ask? Well, for starters the shirt is now made by American Apparel, which means ringspun cotton, soft, tailored fit, a little stretchy – cool, we thought you’d like that. Secondly – and this is a first – it now comes in 3 sizes: Small, Medium and Large. The previous version was perfect for a size 0 maybe for a size 2, but now we have the whole gamut, so order to your hearts content…

The Jimi X Wallet

November 14th, 2006

Jimix1We had this wonderful contraption that is billed as ‘the wallet for people who hate wallets’ a while back as an SDJ and it was so successful that we added it to our curated shopping section. Here is Mr Smith’s brand new X version that packs a bit more punch than the traditional wallet.
Just like the standard version, it holds just the essentials, four credit cards on the one side and a few bills and an ID or another card in the detachable money clip on the other side. BUT here’s the difference, expert users know that you can only add a limited amount of bills before it becomes to much and it won’t close anymore. The new X version has the money clip on the outside, so you can add a nice chunk of bills. It is also a new material, that is less flexible and keeps your bills safely in place… Amazingly it actually still fits comfortably in your front pocket without really showing…
It is still made out of 100% recycled materials and 1% of the Jimi’s revenue is invested into environmental causes – so it makes you feel good about the environment as well…
Size: 4.25″ x 2.6″ x .5″ (10,5 x 6,5 x 1,3 cm)
Colors: Stealth Black, Sky Blue – Our New Favorite…, Crystal Clear, Safety Orange
Price: $16 / 16€

Elfcraft Monaco Bracelet

November 13th, 2006

Elfcraftsmall3The leather and Sterling silver bracelets by the wonderful guys over at Elfcraft were some of our favorite Summer SDJ’s, and it continues to be one of our best selling items – it is simply a stunning accessory for guys. A couple weeks ago on our way back home from Europe we spent a day in their eclectic studio to check out the latest new models they had created and brought back their first edition of their new Monaco bracelet.
Here’s the good news: We have them again! They sold out so fast and we couldn’t get any more in time, but now they are finally here again. The new Monaco bracelets are more elaborate than the D’Antibes bracelets we had this summer and use much more detailed silver work and more details like the pictured Fleur de Lis on the closure. They are also much thinner – just a quarter inch thick - and can be worn in addition to the existing bracelet or with a second thin one.
The leather – as usual – is beautifully worn in, dark chocolate brown, very soft, woven together and feeling like you had it forever. The girl’s version has an overall length of 7.75″ (19,5 cm) and the guy’s is 8.75″ (22 cm) long.
Size: For girls, For guys

Morph Pad

November 10th, 2006

Schleeh Design Morph Pad 4So you’re on this conference call that takes forever. Boooooring… You have several options:
1) Play Bejeweled, and look like a complete you know what, when somebody walks in on you. Which btw is highly likely the way modern offices are set up…
2) Take a power nap. The results will be similar to the first option if not worse…
3) Awaken your inner Artiste and create the most amazing sculptures right on your desk!
How you ask? Well, easy as pie.
Morph Pad. At first sight nothing but a tall (1000 sheets) stack of paper. But unleash your creativity and turn it into the most amazing sculpture you can think of by simply twisting and turning it any way you want to. Don’t like the result? No worries, twist and turn again. And voilá: A new sculpture… But beware, this is so addictive, that your coworkers will want to ruin your masterpiece just to create their own.
And if your boss walks in on you whilst you are playing with the Morph Pad and you have your conference call on speaker phone, it could always be considered cleaning up your desk. And which boss doesn’t like a clean desk? And on another thought, this makes a great present for those coworkers or the boss so they’ll stop ruining your masterpieces…

The Lucky Flask

November 9th, 2006

Lucky Flask 3We’ve seen it all, though we don’t exactly recall when: It’s high noon, the hero and the bad guy line up, a distant sound of a lonely guitar, a slight breeze, two loud gun shots, the bad guy goes down but so does our hero. Then after a few moments of despair, he opens his eyes, reaches for his shirt pocket and pulls out the flask that just saved him. The flask now has an obvious indentation, but will forever remind our hero of the lucky moment as he disappears into the sunset.
Sounds familiar, no? Well, here’s your personal version of the story, just waiting to be scratched and scuffed and limited to 1000 pieces. Straight from the great guys at La Tête Au Cube this piece is not available anywhere else yet and just waiting here to be picked up by you, beautifully wrapped and presented to someone special for Christmas.
At 3.5″ x 4.5″ x 1″ (7,5 x 11,5 x 2,5 cm) it holds enough Glenmorangie to warm your heart on a cold winter day…

StickyStains

November 8th, 2006

Stain1Here’s something that made us giggle for quite a while when Shay sent us the email with the images… But let’s rewind and give you the full picture:
We met Shay Alkalay in London a while back and hung out with him for a bit and wrote about the Teddy Bear Dust Bin bags he presented at the Super Design Market not too long ago.
Well now he has just launched his latest idea, and we are the first to have it available for you: Think iron on graphics that you iron around a stain…
You all know the drama: You wear your favorite shirt, eat some beef short ribs and that absolutely delectable 5-spice and ginger infused sauce miraculously makes it onto your shirt. For good. Simply moves in… What to do? Laundry won’t fix it, dry cleaning wont, o.k. Hand shirt to Goodwill, or, turn it into something you can laugh about and use these funny little iron on stickers that only come alive with a stain.
Without a stain, they are just a bunch of arms and legs and heads, but with a stain they are turned into fun characters. 3 fun sets are available: Spacemen, Warriors and Cows & Ducks. Yes, Cows & Ducks – don’t ask us why…
Color: Cows & Ducks, Spacemen, Warriors
Price: $15 / 12€

Stop Talking

November 6th, 2006

Stop Talking 1Every once in a while we all encounter somebody who is continuously talking, non-stop, all the time. And it’s painful. At a party, during a meeting, in the tube, the potential occasions are plentiful…
How do you tell the person to shut up?
Well, our parents always told us to be polite and friendly, so what to do? Easy, take one of Allison Riley’s immaculate ‘Stop Talking’ cards and slip the person in question a little hint…
The cards are as elegant as one can imagine: The size of a standard business card, using beautiful post consumer stock that feels soft and heavy on the touch and immaculate letterpress work in an elegant and almost restrained typeface, they could never really insult anybody. 25 of them come in an understated black box and leave a lasting impression. The look on the recipients face is priceless.
