UNO Ring Magnetic Jewelry

June 30th, 2008

UNO_Ring.jpgIf you are a regular here, then you know that we had this about 2 weeks ago already, so why are we bringing it back so soon? Well, for one it is a fantastic product, but secondly, we think that we didn’t do a good job at explaining what this is, based on the feedback we received. So we’ll give it another try and hope to do better this time: Now what is an UNO Ring? A somewhat confusing name, but a super sexy product: It is a super thin silver chain, 80″ (200 cm) long and a magnetic ring in either gold or silver. If you know the classic magnetic jewelry, then you know that there’s always a magnet involved, because that’s how the chain is held, and this time the magnet is the ring – hence the name. Now all you have to do is start playing. Wrap the chain around your arm as a bracelet, place the ring in the middle or on top of it and voila, your bracelet is ready to go. Use it around your neck as a necklace and just use the ring to hold it together – it won’t budge, you don’t have to be afraid of loosing it – for a super sexy presentation. Now if you really don’t want the chain, yes, you can wear the ring on its own, just as a ring, but that somewhat defeats the idea… Absolutely fabulous is all we can say and the perfect summer accessory! Color: Gold, Platinum Size: Size 7 - 17,5 mm, Size 9 - 19 mm, Size 11 - 20,5 mm

Michael Young’s brand new PXR-6 watch

June 27th, 2008

PXR6.jpgJoy to the world of PXR lovers… Today is the day we have been waiting for for almost a year now! What are we talking about? Well, our favorite watch - the PXR-5 - was unavailable for almost a year now. It was completely redesigned, retooled, remanufactured, re-everything, and will now be available through us exclusively in all its new splendor. That’s why we are celebrating! What has changed you might ask? Well, not much from the outside, it still looks exactly the same - which is essential, as it was so good looking - but the inside is all new. It now is truly waterproof - we have one in a water glass just to test it - the buttons work perfectly and the night light isn’t erratic anymore, but works at the slightest touch. This meant that a complete new inside machine had to be created from scratch that would satisfy Michael’s high quality standards. The outside is still as pretty as ever, and you don’t need to be a watch aficionado to appreciate the classic yet modern design of Michael Young’s PXR 6. This is one of the most stylish digital watches and we are huge fans of it! The functions remain the same and are simple, clear and to the point: time and date on a dark background with light type. And when the light button is pressed, it glows with beautiful blue light. The bracelet is almost an inch wide and can be adjusted to a minimum length of 6.5″ (16,5 cm) or a maximum of 8.25″ (21 cm). What has changed? Well, for one the name. It’s now the PXR-6 so it can’t be confused with the previous model, secondly there won’t be a women’s version any more - so sorry - thirdly the rose gold isn’t available anymore and lastly the price. We know, that’s not what you wanted to hear, but it’s a fact. The watch has been completely re-done and it is sold in Euro, so you know what that means: bad news for all of us here in the US. But that’s pretty much everything, the different colors are still available, you’ll find the Ultranoir if you click here and the gold version if you look here. So what’s left to say? Well, the watch ships out after quality control in 10 days and whilst we have a lot of them, we anticipate to sell out of them again very quickly, hence the pre sale here. So if you do want to make sure that you can get your hands on the first new PXR-6, this is the right time… In addition to the standard bracelet, the other colors available are: slate grey, highland green, charcoal black, midnight blue, sand, chocolate, hot pink, ivory and snow white and you can get them as a set and save here or choose your favorite color here.

St Peter Lemon & Lime Juicer

June 26th, 2008

St_Peter.jpgWe’ll end our impromptu series of unusual kitchen contraptions by Pandora Design with their St Peter Lemon & Lime Juicer. This eccentric and beautiful piece is handmade out of ceramic, comes in black and white and completely turns the usual notion of a lemon squeezer on its head. Usually round with a chubby form factor this looks more like the traditional roof you can find in – exactly – Rome the Saint Peter’s Basilica. When squeezing the lemon or lime, the juice runs downward with the pulp being held up at the ‘fence’ allowing you to pour only the juice into your beverage. Very nice…

Trinacria Cutlery

June 25th, 2008

Trinacria.jpgLet’s stick with the same theme and get some more unusual kitchen contraptions out your way: This particular one was originally designed by Kazuyo Komoda back in 2003 for Pandora, but was never really introduced to the market properly. We really like it for its very unusual approach to a topic that usually sees little to no innovation. Don’t get us wrong, cutlery is a fabulous area to dive into and there are thousands of designs out there (probably more like millions) but the general approach never changes: fork left, knife and spoon right, desert spoon above the plate. And if you are having more than one course, start doubling up… But this is very different and that’s what we liked about it! It is quite obviously plastic, each box holds a set of five, an holds an assortment of colors: clear, yellow, red, green and black. It is pretty solid, not at all flimsy and wobbly, is dish washable and made in bella Italia! Now all you need to think about is whether you need one or two of these per plate… Let us know, we’d love to hear your thinking!

Il Budino

June 24th, 2008

Il_Budino1.jpgWhen it comes to unusual food contraptions, we are complete suckers and give everything a try. Case in point, this fun set of little buddha moulds. 4 little buddhas come is each set, each a different color, and you can use them for anything from ice cream, to mousse, or pudding. We’ve even tried it with Jello and boy does that look fun… So if you are anything like us and like to have fun in the kitchen, then these little guys might just be what you are looking for…

Badminton

June 20th, 2008

Badminton.jpg

We are in love. Nothing unusual there, but it’s a T-shirt we are in love with, so that’s pretty unusual. And to make things worse, it’s not just one T-shirt, but a whole series of them, designed by Turk & Taylor – a tiny fashion upstart here in San Francisco – that has simpy taken us by storm. The good thing is that the feelings are mutual, so we will be bringing you some of their sold out designs in special limited edition runs over the next couple weeks and we will be adding their brand new products as soon as they become available. Now what’s so special about their shirts? Well, not just are they organic American Apparel cotton, hand screened in local shops and batch dyed to their exact specs, but they are simply amazingly pretty. Beautiful graphics, beautiful color schemes, witty placement, tiny runs – it’s all very nicely done and that’s hard to find these days! So we’ll start the series off with one of our favorites, the badminton shirt, it’s a perfect example of their craft. A beautiful muted blue, gorgeous graphics and the shuttlecock on the back is simply smart. What else can you say? The cut is American Apparel, so the shirt is snug and it comes in the standard S, M, L sizes. Love it!

Help I Need Help

June 19th, 2008

Bandage.jpg

Couldn’t we all do with a little help from time to time?

We brought you these wonderful products a good two months back already, but we wanted to feature it again in our daily Soupe, because this is one of the most exciting product launches in a long time. A launch so David vs Goliath like that we immediately wanted to jump on board and help out. Forget the band-aids that are called – well, just that, and think again before you reach for your Aspirin or Tylenol, because in our book, there’s a new sheriff in town. And the nice thing is, that he’s more like your mom or your brother or your best friend and not like Mr Clenshaw, your PE teacher in 7th grade who made you do 100 push up’s ‘all for your own good’. But the fun aside, this is truly a wonderful new brand aimed at invigorating a category where a mere line extension is considered innovation. Help is the company name and Help offers two things: bandages and a headache remedy. Sounds profane? Then read on… Let’s start with the headache remedy: The tablets contain 500 mg of acetaminophen. Acetaminophen was chosen because it’s an excellent treatment for headaches and it doesn’t cause the stomach problems that aspirin and ibuprofen can. To all you Europeans out there, Acetaminophen is nothing new, it’s called Paracetamol and has been around for quite a while. Help also tried to keep their pills as close to pure Acetaminophen as they could, They haven’t included the coatings and dyes that many companies are so fond of using. Coatings and dyes can make a pill look prettier but they don’t really help you with your headache, and that’s what Help is trying to do. If you enjoy coatings and dyes, you will have to eat them separately. The bandages have an equally sensible approach: These bandages don’t look normal. That’s because they are made of a futuristic material called Hydrocolloid. It’s the same material they use in hospitals to help wounds heal faster and reduce scarring. It is almost invisible, and the bandages should stay on for several days. They are best for minor cuts, and blisters, so if your injury is bleeding everywhere, you might want to use something else or go see a doctor. So you can see, their products are really outstanding, but it continues, their packaging rocks as well: Many companies enjoy packaging their goods inside nasty materials covered in gaudy graphics. That’s because many companies are controlled by a very corporate way of thinking. Most of the Help packaging is made of molded paper pulp. They enjoy molded paper pulp because it is soft and it makes interesting shapes. Also because it is made from 100% recycled materials and it is compostable - which means one day, it will probably become a part of a large tree. Maybe you can cut down that tree and make it into a speedboat. Now you are obviously asking yourself: Is this safe? It’s completely safe, because the interesting thing is that the companies who make the remedies that contain all that yucky stuff can actually make products that are much better than the ones they sell. So you see, it’s just a question of whether you want change for a better cause or not! So get yourself the combo you want, and then go tell all your friends and their friends and help to make Help a huge success! Color: Bandage/Headache; Bandage/Bandage; Headache/Headache

Matryoshka

June 17th, 2008

Matryoshka1.jpgYou’ve probably seen this quintessential Russian souvenir a dozen times. A large wooden doll, and inside is another – slightly smaller – one and inside that one another and yet another and so on until you end up with a tiny version. They have been around for the longest time and seem to be the souvenir of choice for everybody returning from Russia. Well, the great guys over at Art Lebedev have turned out their own special version, merging the original little dolls with a modern graphic, that creates a very very unique representation of the classic piece. Obviously this new design is also crafted out of Linden wood and hand painted by the same craftsmen who work on the more traditional versions in Nizhny Novgorod – why change the winning team? Just lovely!

Price: $220 / 150€
