The Lying Egg Cup

September 30th, 2008

lying_egg-cup.jpgEvery once in a while we like a boiled egg for brekkie, and whilst there is an abundance of egg cups out there, few actually make it onto our list of things we like to see on our tables.
So we were quite delighted to come across this beautiful version which is not just elegant and simple, but also highly unusual. Clean and elegant lines that don’t distract, but the true amazement lies in the fact that the egg is ‘lying’ and not ’sitting’ in the egg cup. There’s some old story behind this and apparently eggs were always had this way until a very long time ago somebody came along and decided that the way we have them today would be the way forward. In any case, we love them and think they are fabulous and unusual.
And you know how much we like unusual!
Price: $20 / 12€

XO aka Mirror Tic Tac Toe - Finally in stock again

September 26th, 2008

XO_black.jpgOne of your favorites in the last weeks is finally back in stock!
We like smart and witty designs – you should know that by now – and we really like Shahar Peleg’s smart thinking on the XO.
Really simple and really well done the XO is a Tic Tac Toe game and yes, you might argue that there are a ton of them out there, but this one is special as it is played on a mirrored surface and the X and O are only half of what they should be. Why? Well, you are playing it on a mirror surface, hence no need for the other half.
Yup, pretty smart.
Price: $40 / 30€ plus shipping

Verbarius – In Stock Again!

September 25th, 2008

Verbarius1.jpgBrand new, out of the box, out on our desk, grab the camera and start to shoot. The first shipment went so fast that we couldn’t even try one ourselves, but now it’s changed. This is Art Lebedev’s brand new Verbarius Clock, the first digital clock that spells the time out for you and we are totally happy with it. Set up is a breeze, it looks very very cool and elegant and is just plain lovely. In case you don’t know what we are talking about, here’s the long story:
Our dear friends over at Art Lebedev have done it again, the first digital clock that doesn’t use numbers, but actually spells it out for you…
How about ‘Fifteen minutes to nine’ or ‘twenty past six’ – that’s some departure from the common digital clock, no? And it wouldn’t be Art Lebedev if it wouldn’t come with a bunch of languages already pre-installed (namely English, German and Russian) as well as other language packs (if Latin or Eskimoan rock your boat, go ahead…) that you can download, or the mere fact that it hooks up to your Mac or PC via a simple USB cable to transfer these language packs…
Simply stunning and the perfect gift for any geek in your family. Oh, they measure 7.9″ x 2.8″ x 1.7″ (20 x 7 x 4 cm) in case you need to make some room…
Price: $46 / 32€

Stadtlicht - Citylight

September 23rd, 2008

Stadtlicht1.jpgYou know that we adore the Gorgeous Helen lampshades because they turn every wineglass into an instant lampshade, and now the ladies at Dekoop have just launched their most recent goodie:
The Citylight is a vellum lampshade that slides over a laser cut metal city scape, inside sits a votive candle and voila, you have a perfect reflecting city, creating a wonderful mood on any table inside or out.
The set comes complete with the base, 2 vellum shades and the city scape in a cute little box. And the best part of it, you can choose from a series of cities: Hamburg, Berlin and Munich - the designers are German after all – but there’s also a small international selection which currently consists of London, Paris, New York and Zurich – hopefully more will be added soon…
Colors: Berlin, Hamburg, London, Munich, New York, Paris, Zurich

Mighty Tags

September 22nd, 2008

mime-attachment.jpegSummer is over in most of the world, and we should be well rested, but the opposite is the case and we feel like we could so get on that plane for a little get-away in the south pacific. A little cabana on the beach, doing nothing except catching the occasional wave… Ahhh, yes, life is good…
If we may interrupt that thought of the beach cabana for a second, we would like to introduce you to our current favorite luggage tags. Luggage tags are essential these days with the ubiquitous black trolley as the preeminent carrying device of choice. And it would feel awkward - to say the least - to spend the day in somebody else’s bikini, no? In any case, the Mighty Tags are the latest and greatest by Terence Kelleman of Dynomighty Design.
Made out of the super strong micro fiber Tyvek, their incredible strength will stand up to the toughest use because thousands of super fine plastic fibers arranged in random patterns make it virtually impossible to tear. But, they are also environmentally responsible, with 25% of their composition coming from recycled mild and water containers. And being Grade 2 recyclable, they are commonly accepted in most recycling programs.
With all that good info, the only quest left is to chose a design. There are 10 tags per box, and given the fact that they last so long, you probably won’t need another tag, ever…
Colors: Air Mail, Fragile, That’s Mine, Grafitti, Translation, Passport, Vacation, Heavy
Price: $12 / 9€

I’m Not A Papercup – Back again

September 19th, 2008

Papercup1.jpgAnd once again our favorite commuter mug is back in stock. You constantly buy all of the pieces we are stocking making it sell out on a regular basis, but a new shipment just arrived today, so you can start all over again and get as many as you like, we have plenty!
‘I’m Not A Papercup’ doesn’t really need any explanation now, does it? It’s the ubiquitous coffee mug that we have most likely all had in our hands, but this time it is made of double walled porcelain and the plastic lid is replaced by reusable silicone. It is the perfect accessory for every tea lover, because it is made out of porcelain, so no aluminum to stain the flavor of your subtle teas. So much fun and such good news for the environment. Why use a throw away cup that will only end up in landfill, when you can use this over and over and over again? It is truly the perfect solution for all you commuting coffee and tea lovers out there!
Any thing else? Oh right, dimensions: 3.5″ (9 cm) diameter; 6″ (15 cm) tall.

Hedy Coffee/Tea Cup

September 18th, 2008

hedy1.jpgYou know by now that we can’t get enough of beautiful china. Especially if it is as pristine as today’s Soupe. All we can do is give up and place an order, that’s how amazing it is.
Designed by English designer Hannah Morrow just a quick hours flight south of us in L.A. this is as beautiful as cups can get in our opinion. Whether you are into coffee or tea is completely irrelevant, pour yourself a perfect cup in this elegant and simple bone china cup. This beauty is crafted in the UK to utmost perfection. Super thin, the sunlight shines through the walls, perfectly proportioned and at 3 3/4″ (9.5 cm) high by 2 3/4″ (7 cm) wide the perfect size for your morning lunch or afternoon cuppa…
Simply gorgeous!

September 17th, 2008

doily1.jpgOh yes, coasters, what a topic! Do we need them? Do we want them? We really don’t want to influence you, but if you are looking for some, then this is an alternative to the standard coasters you’d find everywhere else.
Today’s Soupe is made out of unused newspapers, so each set comes with 100 coasters with a very traditional pattern but rather than being made from your traditional paper, this is made from unused newspapers, each coaster different from the previous.
We love them!

Clocky

September 16th, 2008

clocky_wh.jpgDo you have problems getting up in the morning? Come on, stop lying to yourself, who doesn’t? And we don’t mean after a nasty eve with too many Vodka Tonics, we are talking about the general get up at 7am thing…
Here’s something that might change that. Clocky is a clock that makes you get up, because when the alarm goes off, Clocky takes off. Quite literally. No kidding, Clocky’s big wheels power up and make it cruise off your night side table and once it hits the ground, it really zips off with a nasty alarm. So if you want to kill the alarm, better get up and get that little beast.
Pretty fabulous and fun!
Colors: Almond, Aqua, Coco, Raspberry
Price: $50 / 50€

It’s been a while since you last thought about them most likely unless you have them for your little ones. But that’s about to change with this great desk light cum storage unit that looks like those little colorful bricks, just super-sized. Oh, and there’s no more color, they are super sexy matt plex, so really solid and substantial and they emit such a nice glow!
The set consists out of the light block at the bottom and the storage block on top and measures 10 x 15 x 6 cm.
Fabulous!!!

Wall Vase

September 12th, 2008

Wall_Vase.jpgHow about a flat vase? Or a wall vase? How about both combined in one? Yes, we will continue with our unusual contraptions today and today’s Soupe is a milk carton as a vase on the wall. Sound unusual? That’s what we thought and what got us even more intrigued. Two bonded ABS plastic sides make up this unusual presentation that comes with two super strong magnets so it adheres to any magnetic surface – yes, filled with water! But whip out the special adhesive that comes with it and stick it to literally any wall of choice – yes, filled with water…
Pretty nifty, eh?

So in case you ever wanted to have a little city on your desk, you now have two to choose from…

Concrete Tumblers (set of 2)

September 10th, 2008

concrete_tumbler.jpgAs much as we love our fragile and gorgeous Teroforma tumblers, sometimes a drink needs to simply sit in your hand as solid as it gets. Time to get out the Concrete Tumblers. These fantastic glasses are a great combination of real concrete and glass and work perfectly for any occasion. A dirty Martini will work just as well as a neat Hendricks or any other high octane beverage. But, they also do a great job as water glasses because their design is so timeless and simple…
In any case, we simply adore them and added them to our favorites list immediately!
Price: $30 / 25€

Leaf Coasters - Set of 2

September 3rd, 2008

leaf_coasters.jpgWhen it comes to coasters we are torn. Some are great, most are terrible, few make our cut. But these beautiful wool felt coasters designed by German designer Anna Dabrowski and made by Aetna Felt in Allentown, PA from 100% merino wool felt, definitely make our cut. The coasters come in two leaf shapes: Oak (6 point) and Elm (9 point) and each design is available in green/blue, purple/pink or orange/red. While the natural density of felt makes it relatively durable, spills should be wiped away quickly and any stains removed with mild soap and water.
Anna Dabrowski is a highly conceptual designer and photographer, a characteristic that’s readily apparent in her work and reflects her philosophy that ‘there is an entire life behind things.’ Her inspiration for the coasters came during a walk through Berlin’s famous Tiergarten. Combine her design sensibility with Aetna Felt, established 75 years ago in Allentown, PA, and you have a winning combination. Aetna Felt continues a successful history of combining high quality imported German felt with the ingenuity of traditional American production. Their enthusiasm for the material’s flexibility and huge range of potential applications is just as important as their skill and expertise. Smart is good. Smart and fun is better.
We love them!
Price: $15 / 12€
