Jiwari – Good Night Light

November 18th, 2008

Jiwari.jpg

Here’s another beautiful product straight from 100% Design in Tokyo and it’s so typical Japanese… It’s called the ‘Good Night Light’ and what it does is simple to explain: You place it on the table next to your bed and when you turn off your light and are ready to go zzzzzzzz, this little sweet lamp gently lights up and then after a short while just as gently goes out again. Why? Well, think of it as being tucked in, a little beacon of light to finally have you snooze away. You don’t ever have to touch it as it runs on its own with a light sensor and though it’s tiny in size, it makes a massive impression with a super strong LED that is very visible. It’s a beautiful idea that could only come from Japan, we have it next to our beds here at C&M (not literally here) and we completely enjoy its uselessness every night. It’s just plain lovely…

C&M’s Fabulous Surprise Holiday Calendar

November 14th, 2008

Holiday Calendar.jpg

Have you already found the ultimate gift for yourself or another loved one this holiday season? Well here is your last chance to get your hands on just that:

The ultimate holiday splurge is back! For the 3rd year in a row, we’re doing it again and this year it’s more amazing, unusual, special, beautiful than ever before. What are we talking about? The ultimate get ready for the holidays gift: C&M’s famous surprise holiday calendar!

Following in the footsteps of the holiday calendars that are so common in Europe that come filled with 24 pieces of fairly disgusting chocolate, each hiding behind a small door that is opened on a daily basis. When we were kids, we loved opening one door at a time and it us all excited and looking forward to the big day. This is the adult version, 24 gifts, curated by us, items that you won’t find anywhere else, limited editions, C&M exclusives, and simply stunning and amazing things from all over the world. Home Accessories, some personal luxuries, gifts, some table top, some bath, some gadget and all is simply fabulous. All these goodies come beautifully wrapped – we’re famous for our wrapping - in one big – no, huge – box, delivered right to your doorstep on December 1st. Then it’s up to you, dive right in and splurge, or open one every day, follow the numbers or don’t, or keep them all until the last day and open them all on the 25th. Any way you like it, once it’s delivered to your doorstep, you can choose how to treat it. Last year we had two different calendars the Luxe and the Cosmopolitan Edition, this year we have decided against the two versions, the Cosmo version simply didn’t have the finesse the Luxe version had and we didn’t like that. So just one fabulous all glam version that is very gender neutral, so no matter who the lucky one is, it will be spot on!

One last thing: This is the last weekend when it is available, come Monday it’s over and we’re starting to wrap all these great gifts, so choose now or wait until it rolls back next ye

Oblique Vase

October 2nd, 2008

Oblique_Vase1.jpgWe really don’t like to be patient at all, especially when it comes to new products. We saw today’s Soupe almost 2 years ago for the first time when we were at 100% Design in London. At that time Gen Suzuki was making them himself, but had just secured a manufacturer and when we were in Milan earlier this year, we saw them in production and were so excited, because they are one of the most intriguing vases that we have seen for the longest time. What’s the fuss about? These oblique vases play a great trick on you, because they look like they are truly big and dimensional, when they are actually really thin. It is a wonderful application of how perspective can play a trick on you! Made out of Poly Stone, the vases have a great feel to them and come in Gray and White and two sizes are available, the smaller one is 93 x 93 x 23 mm deep and the larger one is 120 x 146 x 30 mm deep. If you don’t like the metric system, try these measurements instead: 3.6″ x 3.6″ x 0.92 for the small one or 4.7″ x 5.7″ x 1.1″ Absolutely wonderful! Color: White, Gray Size: Small, Large
Price: $60 / 40€

Betty Lou

August 25th, 2008

Betty_Lou.jpgSometimes it takes time to develop a great product. The latter is definitely true for Mark McKenna’s Betty Lou lamp which took over 1000 hours to develop. But the result is simply stunning both visually and from a technological stand point.
Visually it looks like a large Riedel wine glass with a large glass dome and a small silver or gold ‘flashlight’ providing the illumination through a handful of high intensity LED lights and a reflective base in the ‘glass’. Simply gorgeous!
Technologically it is a real stunner, all you need to do is insert the charging funnel and set the ‘flashlight’ on top, and voila, it’s done, it’s charging away, so the next time you turn them on, you’ll have an easy 7 hours of continuos illumination.
Unlike your Riedel glasses, Betty Lou is made out of Polycarbonate, so it’s a lot safer than glass, but it looks identical. It’s simply a very uncomplicated and elegant lamp, perfect for any dinner setting.
Colors: Gold, Silver
Price: $260 / 190€ plus shipping

Michael Young PXR-5 Women’s Edition

June 21st, 2007

Pxr5 Women1 SilverThis is the week where long anticipated products are now finally arriving! We had Jonas Damon’s excellent new LED Clock earlier this week which you can see here.
If you missed it and for the weekend we have a really tasty Soupe:
Michael Young’s PXR 5 is finally available for fragile women’s wrists and if you pre-ordered them, you’d be wearing them for a while already, but if you didn’t, well here you are!
For those of you not quite as familiar with one of our favorite products, here’s a formal introduction: The PXR-5 is designed by Michael Young, designer extraordinaire from the UK and part of the Established & Sons group around Zaha Hadid. The watch itself is wonderfully simple, it shows the time, the date and seconds–what more do you need–and has a beautiful blue light with cast an elegant glow at night. The case is about an inch and a quarter wide and the inner height is 3/4 of an inch (2 cm) and the total height is an inch and a half (3,8 cm). The interchangeable velcro bracelet is 3/4″ wide and can be set to a minimum of 6.5″ (16,5 cm) and a max of 8″ (20 cm), leaving you with plenty of options to wear it. The bands are NOT the same as the men’s version, so they can’t be shared…
Currently only the steel versions are available, but we will update you as soon as we hear about the Ultranoir and the Gold versions as well!
Price: $90 / 75€
