Renova Colored Toilet Paper

May 12th, 2008

Renova Black-1Sometimes, we can do things others simply can’t. Case in point: Today’s Soupe. It’s been a favorite of ours for the longest time and a regular addition to the curated shopping area for over a year, but it has been and is unavailable in the US. The manufacturer has not been able to deliver any here in the US for over 5 months now. And what are we doing about it? Well, for starters we are shipping it over from Europe to make it available here again. Pretty cool eh? Well we like to think it is. So here it is, finally available in the US again, Renova Colored Toilet Paper!
Ok, so you are thinking: What? Toilet paper? Have you gone completely insane, lost your marbles or spilled the brain away with too many Martinis?
Well actually none of the above. Black toilet paper has been around in the hopping clubs and hotels in Europe for quite a while already, but we were amazed how few people actually knew about this stateside. Made by Renova in Portugal, it has been dermatologically and gynecologically tested, it is made of 100% biodegradable, virgin pulp that is chlorine-free and entirely recyclable, so basically a 3 ply, completely non-toxic, soothing tissue. And no, it does not bleed any color when wet, in case you were worrying…
So treat your tush some color and if you have a little party, get-together or dinner thing, this will be quite a conversation piece, whether you want it or not. Oh, and if you don’t like black, it also comes in sunny Orange and a deep dark Red and Green, but we’ll spare you the comments we could come up with for that…
In case we didn’t mention it already: 3 rolls of this luxurious paper come in one gift canister.
Price: $15 / 11€

Moon Jar

May 9th, 2008

Moon JarWhen we had this Soupe a couple months back, you immediately cleared out all our inventory. Well now it is finally back in stock! The perfect companion to the Sun Jar by our friends over at Suck UK. And the perfect accessory for all of you who can’t get enough of the moon! Another great idea by Tobias Wong, this jar stores the moon light. No kidding, it really does…
Have it sit in the sun during the day and see it radiate at night. All made possible by modern technology – some LED’s, a solar panel and some ingenious thinking. The kind of thinking Tobi is famous for.
This is a wonderful effect and the sandblasted glass makes it glow in an eerie shade of blue. It is a great little idea for a dinner table, where you have the jars scattered around the table, or an evening at the beach where they will provide just the right amount of light, or as garden illumination, just position them at strategic points in your garden or rooftop terrace or balcony – they work equally well in either location.
Granted, the time for outdoor parties might not have arrived all over the world yet, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be planning ahead, right? In the mean time you might want to use it as a night light, at 4×4x6.5″ (10 x 10 x 16 cm) it is just perfect in size for a subtle illumination in the dark.
Price: $44 / 36€

Gorgeous Helen

May 2nd, 2008

Gorgeous Helen 3Now if you are wondering why we would run one of our all time favorites as a Soupe, 2 years after it has been launched, then you can stop right there. The reason is simple: We have a new manufacturing partner and were able to reduce the US$ price by a whopping 30%. So why would we launch that secretly without telling everybody? See, it just didn’t make sense to us! If you have no idea what we are talking about, and what a Gorgeous Helen actually is, then do read on and get to know one of our favorite products…
If you are looking to add a dash of uniqueness to your table decoration, you might want to invite Gorgeous Helen over…
Don’t get us wrong, Gorgeous Helen is not the latest interior decorator from Sweden, but a brilliant product by Anke and Katrin from Dekoop in Hamburg.
Made out of fragile parchment, each set contains 3 different shades with cute and whimsical designs that are printed in a faint white. All you need to do is take them out of the package, roll them up, drop a candle into a wine glass and add the lampshade. That’s it. Instantly the white pattern is transformed to a darker shade (as if it were a shadow) and a wine glass is turned into a sweet miniature lamp.
Have an enchanted evening…

Phonofone II - Limited Edition Black

April 18th, 2008

D8Ee343D7CWe brought you Tristan Zimmermann’s amazing Phonofone a couple weeks back and if you pre-ordered yours, it is most likely already humming and looking very good. But we couldn’t stop there, and as much as we love the white for it’s purity, the black simply looks so slick! So we decided to do a limited run of 200 pieces to give you an option: innocent white, or if you prefer the darker side, then we have the black waiting for you…
But in case you have no idea what we are talking about, then forgive our talking and let us introduce you to Tristan and the Phonofone II:
Tristan Zimmermann is a very humble person, he always wanted to invent something important, like modesty. But because that was already taken, he invented the Phonofone. That’s good for us, because its something we can actually manufacture for him, whereas modesty would have been a real stretch…

What is the Phonofone you ask? In short, it’s like a speaker for your iPod, only it uses no power. Through passive amplification alone, these unique pieces instantly transform any personal music player + earbuds into a sculptural audio console. Without the use of external power or batteries, the Phonofone II inventively exploits the virtues of horn acoustics to boost the audio output of standard earphones to up to 55 decibels. Now let’s make this clear, 55 decibels is not going to entertain your party, but it’s fine for the office or next to the bed or or for a dinner party. But honestly, if you want to get a great sounding set of speakers that you can crank up and rock out to, get a set of Bose.
Truly an amazing object, the Phonofone is clever piece of applied science, a beautiful icon of nostalgia, and an ironic twist on the insular nature of personal listening devices. It is not intended to be used as home stereo system. The Phonofone II is constructed entirely from ceramic. Not only environmentally low impact, ceramics are inherently rigid and resonant, lending themselves well to this application.
And the best thing, it is ready for pre-order now and will go out in about 4 weeks. But because the demand has been extremely high so far, we have decided to do a pre-sale so we can ensure that you can actually get your hands on one…
Material: Ceramic
Dimensions: 11″ x 9.5″ x 20″ (28 x 25 x 51 cm)

The fine print on Phonofone:
To fully exploit the amplification potential of your Phonofone the following considerations are strongly urged:
1) MP3 player – The output power of full size Apple brand iPods and iPod minis (HD size non specific) is ideally suited for powering a Phonofone. iPod nanos and shuffles are only recommended if used with an inline headphone amplifier (see point #5). It is also recommended to override your iPod volume restriction settings before hooking it up to a Phonofone.
2) Headphones - Only Apple Brand earbuds (with the adapters provided with your Phonofone) are recommended for this application. Be aware that after prolonged use at loud volumes, the earbuds can start to degrade in audio quality.
3) Types of music – The phonofone is excellent for amplifying Blues, Classical and Folk music, but is less ideal for Electronic music and Rock. This is because the heavy bass associated with both Rock and Techno can result in clipping (buzzing) when played at its loudest volume. If clipping is occurring in a song, it can be overridden by selecting the ‘bass reduction’ equalizer setting in your iPod or by playing the song at a slightly lower volume.
4) MP3 Quality – Not all music is mastered the same. That is, the baseline volume of each song can differ from each other significantly especially if your music library consist of illegally downloaded material (which we hope it isn’t). If you are experiencing a large degree of variation in the listening volume of your MP3s try adjusting the gain (volume) of each file accordingly by using free 3rd party software. We will not assume responsibility for any damages that this software might incur.
5) Headphone Preamplifiers - If you plan on using your Phonofone with an iPod shuffle or nano, or are simply seeking more volume from this device, you can purchase a headphone amplifier. A headphone amplifier is small battery operated device that is placed in-line between your MP3 player and your earbuds. This device will increase the power of the signal to the headphones which will result in a higher volume (and actually makes the Phonofone sound rather loud). Please note that using a preamplifier can significantly limit the life of your earbuds and should be used with discretion. If you hear the earbuds ‘crackling’ then it’s time to turn the volume down.
Price: $600 / 400€

Cubix Lamp

April 17th, 2008

CubixWe have been waiting for this Soupe for approximately 5 months now! This was a favorite just before the holidays, but then it was out of production, until now, so without further ado, here’s the fabulous Cubix lamp!
Need some light to set the right mood? Try this on for size: It is such a wonderfully simple idea and creates such a beautiful mood. It’s a lamp made out of oak wood frames and the frames provide both the frame of the lamp as well as the lampshade. At 3.9″x3.9″x10.6″ (or 10 x 10 x 27 cm if you feel more at home with the metric system) it is a perfect size for any small surface that needs enhancing. The wooden frames are attached alongside one axis, allowing you to play with them and create different overlapping spaces, which in turn allow the light to stream out.
Whether you are into clean and crisp geometric shapes or prefer the more chaotic approach, anything is pretty much possible with this unique lamp. A word of advice though: If you and your significant other have debates about how toothpaste should be used and stored – standing or lying down, with or without the cap, squeezed from the top or the bottom – then you might want to skip this Soupe…
Price: $75 / 60€

Diamond Rings By:AMT 1/4″

April 7th, 2008

Black SmokeWhat can we say, Alissia simply created a whole new category when she launched these quintessential ‘diamond’ rings. Precision laser cut out of Acrylic in an abundance of colors they can be worn as a single, but we prefer them stacked. Take 2 thin colored ones and add a thicker black one in the middle, or take 2 thick ones and a thin one in the middle, it’s all up to you, play with them until you’ve found your favorite combination. Or do the opposite, don’t ever wear the same combination twice, there are so many variations that you can create, virtually limitless… And even though it might not be a ‘real’ diamond ring, if you ask anybody to draw a diamond ring from the side – this is exactly what they will draw.
Simply brilliant! Oh and if you are looking for the thin 1/8″ versions, click here.
And the amazing new images were shot by Lisa Klappe a couple weeks back, and we simply adore them!
Color: Clear, Ivory, Black, Ruby Red, Fluo Pink, Smoke, Fluo Yellow
Sizes/Diameter:
Size 5 - 16 mm
Size 6 - 16,5 mm
Size 7 - 17,5 mm
Size 8 - 18 mm
Size 9 - 19 mm
If you are wondering what size you need, click here, most international sizes are provided.

PopMat (set of 10) – Now available in White!

April 3rd, 2008

BirdcageOur favorite placemats are now available in white! What, you don’t know what we are talking about? Well here’s the proper introduction:
We found these in New York just a few weeks ago and they are so unbelievably adorable that we immediately fell in love with them! What are they you ask?
Easy: pop-out placemats. Think of them, as placemats with a name card built in, cool, no? We simply adore them! They are made out of a beautiful, fiber rich paper, 13″ x 17″ (33 x 43 cm) in size and until now they were only available in a wonderful cream color. But that has changed and you can get them not just in the beautiful cream color, but also in a soft, warm white. And because it is obviously post consumer waste paper, it’s also very fibrous and thick – we love it!
Three variations are available: The Birdcage, the Mailbox and lastly the Tree and all have a designated space to put the name. A set comes with 10 place mats and all you have to do is pop them out and fold them up, done, that’s it.
Not quite actually, you still have to conjure up a fab dinner to go alongside these fab placemats!
Price: $25 / 18€

Ponton Fireplace by Wolf Udo Wagner

April 2nd, 2008

Ponton FireplaceDo you like camping? We don’t. Don’t get us wrong, we like the outdoors and all that, but putting up tents or sleeping in a sleeping bag is just not us. We do like a couple things that usually come along with camping though and our favorite must be the campfire. It’s just the sight of flames, the warmth, it being a center piece that usually has a bunch of people sitting around it, all that is very nice.
Lucky for us, Wolf Udo Wagner’s Ponton Fireplace works indoors as well as it does outdoors, allowing us to recreate the same type of feeling in the beauty of our home. His distinctively modern rendition burns on bio-alcohol and lasts about 1.5 – 2.5 hours, depending on the size of the flame that you enjoy most. Bio-alcohol has minimal CO2 emissions, so it’s completely safe to burn indoors.
The Ponton is made out tempered glass and stainless steel in Germany, giving it an extremely solid feel which is pretty essential for a mobile fireplace that you can pretty much place anywhere in your home. The overall diameter is 30 cm or 11.8″ and the height is 40 cm or 15.7″, so not all that big and clunky, the perfect centerpiece for a low sofa table or your rooftop garden. We’ve even dragged it to the beach, where it’s just as lovely and leaves much less of a mess.
Price: $900 / 600€

Park Planters

March 28th, 2008

FlasherOK, so you live in the city, and there’s a park in the neighborhood and every once in a while you take a stroll. And because your park is no different than any other park in any other metropolitan city, it attracts all kinds of people. Some normal, like you, some weird, and some, well, let’s just not go there now…
But actually, that’s exactly where Tristan Zimmermann, designer extraordinaire went. Drawing inspiration from the bonsai, the Park Planters were created to elevate the common household plant to the status of full grown tree. The potted plant becomes the backdrop for an urban park scene. This is the first in a series of two different park scenes investigating the dark side of the park, the stuff that happens when the sun goes down and you’re not supposed to play in the park any more. You’ll find a lost salesman, a flasher a gay couple and a mugger, with no two scenes being alike ensuring the autonomy of each piece. Beautifully crafted out of porcelain each set contains a plate, the planter base and two parts of the lid, one blank and one with the scene of your choice.
The entire planter is 6.5″ high and 6.5″ x 6.5″ wide (at the top) - 16,5 x 16,5 x 16,5 cm - and made out of off white porcelain. Get all 4 and recreate your local park in your apartment.

Alphabetical Paperclips

March 20th, 2008

Paperclip 1This was one of your favorite products last year and just before the holidays it went out of production. Yeah, great timing! But it’s finally back in production and ready to go! In case you are not familiar with them, here’s the formal introduction: Stephen Reed showed them to us at 100% Design in London last September - Alphabetized paperclips. At first, we were thinking: OK – and now what? But then when we started playing with them the genius dawned on us: Whether you want to organize certain things alphabetically or just want to prioritize – always a fun task - or turn your Moleskin into an alphabetized notebook. Or if you are into lists and want to have organized lists or if you just want to fool your fellow people and seem as if you are all organized.
As if that would ever happen…

I’m Not A Papercup – PRESALE

March 19th, 2008

Iamnota Papercup1Now here’s a product that we completely forgot and had to be reminded of by the dear Andy at AplusR (by the way, his new store in Venice Beach is a must for everybody in LA!, go check it out when you are in the neighborhood) but back to the topic:
‘I’m Not A Papercup’ doesn’t really need any explanation now, does it? It’s the ubiquitous coffee mug that we have most likely all had in our hands, but this time it is made of double walled porcelain and the plastic lid is replaced by reusable silicone. So much fun!
Now, the first batch was shipped in February and it was immediately sold out, hence the presale. We want to make sure that it’s available when it gets in towards the last third of April, so hurry, get your order in quickly… Oh right, dimensions: 3.5″ (9 cm) diameter; 6″ (15 cm) tall

Me-Ror

March 14th, 2008

Me-Ror1 SqBrand spanking new, this is Alissia MT’s latest coup de grace and it goes out to all the ladies out there (guys, no need to zone out, you can continue reading and get it for your loved one’s…).
Once, quite while back in history, vanities were a most common thing. You’d sit down in front of it, pick up a little hand mirror and do your thing. You know, the whole ‘whose the fairest of them all’ – thing. But then hand mirrors pretty much disappeared; as did vanities and today, you bend over a sink and helplessly attempt to do the same thing there. Not half as romantic of course and not half as effective either.
Granted, you could go out, get yourself a little hand mirror, and reenact the whole scene, but chances are that you’ll have a hard time finding a beautiful one. You’ll find a large array of cheap plastic pieces, but the pretty ones of yore are all gone unfortunately. Well, not quite, because Alissia’s Me-Ror brings back just that time. Hand crafted entirely out of glass, the Me-Ror has a wonderful solid feel to it. Unlike its ugly plastic brothers and sisters, this one actually looks and feels gorgeous. The hand polished edge has a light green glow, the mirror part itself is protected against scratches and bruises on the back and it comes in one amazingly pretty gift box, padded on black velvet. The fact that it is glass makes it as unobtrusive as possible and creates a stunning visual experience and at 9.5″ x 4″ (24 x 10 cm) it is just the perfect size.
Now, who’s the fairest of them all?
Color: Oval, Silhouette

Hot Cold Mug - PRESALE

March 6th, 2008

Hotcold MugWhen we first launched the ‘OnOff Mug’ at the end of last year, we had no idea that it would go so ballistic. But the fact is, that everywhere people loved it and commented on it. The comment we read over and over again was this: ‘why don’t you make a HotCold version?’ Well, we don’t want to be told that we aren’t listening, so here it is, ready for pre-order. The mug is ready to go in about 3 weeks time, and because the last Soupe literally sold out within days, we wanted to give you the opportunity to make sure that you actually get one!
At plain sight it is a standard black mug as they come a dime a dozen and in big white letters it say COLD. Nothing fancy, but once you add the hot beverage of your choice, the mug changes color and is turning white and in big black letters it states: HOT
Nifty eh? Do we need to explain more? Nah, we didn’t think so, we’ll just leave it to the wonders of heat sensitive pigment… Dishwasher safe of course!

S-XL Cake Mold

March 5th, 2008

Sl14 KuchenAnd today we bring you another of our longtime favorites that were unavailable for almost 4 months the ‘S-XL Cake Mold’. No idea what we are talking about? Allow us to fill you in:
You know the scene inside and out: You spend hours baking a fabulous and amazing cake, your friends are seated and then it starts: ‘Oh, I’ll have a small piece please’, says Chloe next to you. ‘Could I get an extra large one?’, says Mildred who really shouldn’t. ‘Could I get that medium sized piece please?’, asks Pete who is always so balanced. In any case, you know what we are talking about…
Put an end to it all! Our dear friends over at Konstantin Slawinski have just released their newest product: A silicone Cake Mold (11.8″ or 30 cm diameter) that ‘pre-shapes’ any cake into 15 separate pieces, in a variation of ’sizes’. From Small, to Extra Large. Now how much easier could life be?

InsideOut Collection Liqueur Glass

March 4th, 2008

InsideOut Collection Liqueur GlassIn a week filled with exciting arrivals, this is one of the long, long awaited highlights!
After the wonderful and unexpected success of the InsideOut collection champagne glasses we introduced this as the second in a series of 4 designed BY:AMT and it is a liqueur glass.
Whether you prefer a sip of Port or a sip of Genever or maybe an extra dry Sherry, this is the perfect glass for the vast array of liqueurs that need this type of shape to properly expose its bouquet and enhance the experience.
BY:AMT was formerly known as AlissiaMT, and should be known to all of you design aficionados out there for her wonderful collection of ‘diamond’ rings and her unique nested appetizer plates ‘A Handful of Plates’.
The InsideOut Collection of barware turns the common knowledge of what a drinking glass should look like on its head. In BY:AMT’s collection of barware, the well known and oftentimes iconic shapes of glasses are hidden behind a neutral and discreet outer shape, unassuming and simple. But once you pour the drink, the glass’ inner identity appears creating an unusual and highly fascinating effect.
The glasses are all mouth blown, are 1.5″ wide and 4.75″ high (4 x 12 cm) and come in a set of 2.
Price: $48 / 40€

Radiator Mug

March 3rd, 2008

Radiator Mug 1We received the first shipment of these fantastic mugs late last year and they sold out within one day. Unfortunately, the remainder of the production was on a boat and there was no way we could speed up the process of getting them. But, the wait is over, the vessel has arrived and the mugs are finally in our warehouse! So here are a couple of words to familiarize you with the fabulous Radiator Mug.
We first met Stephen Reed at 100% Design in London last year, where he sold the first prototype of his ingenious mug at the Super Design Mart, but it took 15 months to get it produced and it is perfect! Read on and see for yourself:
Anyone who has ever opened a PC or worked on an engine will see a resemblance to the fins that are used to cool specific parts that shouldn’t get to hot. Well, the same applies here. Those fins – called heat sinks if you really want to know – cover the entire base of the mug, this way you can hold it without burning your fingers. Pretty nifty if you ask us… But don’t be fooled by the temperature of your favorite beverage, whilst you may be able to hold the mug, it does not imply that it’s ready to be enjoyed.
Next to the fact that it is a very cool idea, it is also a very elegant and good looking one and at 3.5″ (9 cm) wide and 4.5″ (11,5 cm) high, impeccably proportioned…
Price: $25 / 18€
