We just came across this really nice new concept. Sellaband enables fans to invest in bands they believe in. More than 1,500 fans have signed up so far, buying over 2,500 stocks (or parts, as they’re known on Sellaband). Parts let bands and ‘believers’ share profits from cd sales and advertising revenues on www.sellaband.com.
One band, Nemesea, is close to USD 10,000 in budget, and has attracted fans from all over the world. The band is determined to reach the end goal of USD 50,000, which will let them record an album with professional help. On the production side, Sellaband has formed partnerships with renowned producers such as Chris Kimsey, Haydn Bendall, James Poyser and Tony Platt, who’ve worked with a host of music legends, ranging from Bob Marley and the Rolling Stones to Jill Scott and The Roots. A fantastic concept with a lot of thought in it. It finally gives independent bands the chance to get out there and all that with the backing of world class producers. Head over there and support your favorites.
Upper Playground in association with FIFTY24SF Gallery has created a new division of luxury custom made furniture that will be designed by today’s most notable contemporary artists. David Choe, a prolific artist that shows all over North America and internationally, has created a bookcase that will be on view in FIFTY24SF Gallery’s furniture exhibit in December 2006. The bookcase will be among several pieces and rooms designed by Mike Giant, Herbert Baglione, Tiffany Bozic, Jeremy Fish, Sam Flores, Saber, Estevan Oriol, Cody Hudson, Dylan Maddux, Basco, Reyes, Kami & Sasu, Rob Abeyta Jr., and Faile.
This is really an incredible piece. The line will first be shown in the FIFTY24SF Gallery and will then start to be sold beginning of 2007!
The NYC artist Kaws has had great success with his art in the past years. The big success started with his breakthrough in Japan recently. The artist releases his pieces in very limited quantity and on his website, Kawsone, he actually releases only special pieces almost un-annouced. Last year he released a designer toy and it sold out in 13 minutes (250 pieces).
In the mean time Kaws is having gallery shows all around the globe and has his own flagship store now in Tokyo, where he sells his clothing line, designer toys and accessories. Keep this guy in mind, as he is only 26 years old. Let’s see what there is to come from him in the future! By the way, the Soft Skull Pillow that is on the picture is right now in the online store. You better be quick.
Here we have now a new collaboration between sneaker giant Adidas and Gore-Tex. The new sneaker is entirely produced with Gore-Tex material and is thus waterproof. How great is that? Finally you can go out in your favorite sneakers, even when its raining and you do not have to be worried, whether they will be ruined or whether you will get cold and wet feet. This is practical and does not compromise the design, as we can see here. We need more of this.
Here’s something we wouldn’t have expected to see around 100% Design, but loved instantly nevertheless: Maps of our favorite skiing resorts (nothing new…) shaped in 3D to resemble the actual mountains (very new!), so you know where you are actually heading. Way cool, a handful of maps are available and will be extended into a larger set. More here.
Nuala is a Puma line designed by Christy Turlington. This line is inspired by articulations of dance, movement and yoga. Translated into the line that means that colors are not as strong. Its a simple collection with lots of nice pieces. She introduces nice bags and boots in this collection. Rather than using strong colors, she uses nice materials and good cuts in this collection. The collection is now entering stores worldwide, the Puma flagship store in NYC, being the first one! Via Nitrolicious.

Özge Kirimlioglu showed his work in the Talents area alongside 100% East and whilst his work might be seen as controversial, it was definitely some really fresh thinking. We particularly liked his Arrest Hoodie, which – in his words – makes the arresting process a much simpler one… See it for yourself here
